New Delhi, 21 November 2024 – The fifth two-day State Consultative Meeting of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind concluded successfully at Darul Uloom Garigaon, Guwahati, Assam, bringing together key leaders from across India to deliberate on pressing issues concerning the Muslim community and to further solidify the organization’s core ideological position.

In his keynote address, Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, reaffirmed the organization’s steadfast commitment to its foundational principles. He emphasized that Jamiat has consistently prioritized a principled, non-emotional approach, focusing on constructive efforts over reactionary ones. “Jamiat has always remained firm on its ideology and has never resorted to emotional politics,” he said. “Our focus is on the long-term development of education, culture, society, and the economy. No community can progress without a robust economy and strong educational foundations.”

The two-day gathering addressed a wide range of critical topics, including organizational development, membership expansion, and the growing challenge of Islamophobia in India. Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, presented the proceedings from the previous meeting, which set the tone for the discussions that followed. One of the key resolutions was to create a comprehensive paper outlining Jamiat’s ideological stance, ensuring that its principles are clearly articulated and understood nationwide.

A major highlight of the meeting was the strategic decision to intensify efforts against Islamophobia and hate crimes. Delegates from all states were instructed to collect data on hate crimes and Islamophobic incidents, with committees being formed at the state level to monitor and address these issues. A special committee has also been established in Assam to track incidents of hate speech and violence.

The meeting also resolved to enhance Jamiat’s training and educational initiatives, with plans for a series of training programs to be conducted in model districts over the next six months. Provincial Jamiats have been tasked with holding monthly consultation meetings to sustain the momentum of these discussions and ensure continuous engagement with the grassroots.

During the meeting, special prayers were offered for the late Maulana Abdul Haq, former President of Jamiat Ulama Assam, and other departed leaders. Prayers were also made for the recovery of Maulana Abdur Rab Azmi, President of Jamiat Ulama UP.

Maulana Muhammad Salman Bajnori, Vice President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, in his address, emphasized the need for practical leadership and staying true to the organization’s core principles. He urged all members to internalize and apply Jamiat’s ideology for the betterment of the community.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, President of Jamiat Ulama Assam, delivered an insightful speech on Jamiat’s ongoing efforts, particularly regarding the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue. He celebrated the Supreme Court’s recent ruling as a significant achievement, marking the culmination of over 14 years of tireless advocacy by Jamiat.

The sessions also included a detailed report on Jamiat’s extensive work over the past six months. The organization has held 5,692 organizational meetings, established 3,541 new local units, and set up 5,996 maktabs. As part of the organization’s social reform agenda, 4,638 reform sessions were conducted, alongside 2,951 Darse Quran and 2,359 Darse Hadith sessions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Maulana Muhammad Kaleem, Principal of Darul Uloom Garigaon, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their participation. Maulana Sheikh Muhammad Yahya Basakandi, Amir-e-Shariat Assam, extended a warm welcome to the guests.
